Name: Denis A Nolan
Age: 24
Current location: Dublin, Ireland
Work:
At present I currently work in the Hosting and managed services department of Digiweb Ireland. My role is to mainly take care of the systems and offer customers support for the shared hosting system. For me this means active administration of our web1 to web9 linux shared hosting servers and our mail servers. I also take shared responsibility for provisioning of our Xen virtual servers that we offer to our clients. I’m not a fan of windows OS for hosting, so we have other guys in the department to take care of windows
Other responsibilities within our department is taking care of the support articles for clients, by keeping them up to date and also making sure they are clear to all our clients and some QA on our live systems.
Apart from being involved in web hosting, I am also a fully qualified electrician in commercial and residental fields. I studied in DIT Kevin St and have a F.E.T.A.C Level 6 advanced cert in Electrical
Play:
I’ve always had an interest in web development. Most things I do are for myself by self learning and gathering tips and inspiration from other areas of the internet
I mostly do design and some code. My most successful site I have had is SparkyPix http://pix.sparky-s.ie.
It is a simple image hosting script that I have modified bit by bit over the last 18 months down to including a search. I may have plans someday to purchase a domain dedicated for it, but it’s serving its purpose happily right now for the 9000 plus images it is hosting at the moment.
Another site that I have is http://tnypic.net that will hopefully become an online storage system for images. At present it serves as an online drive mostly used by myself.
I’ve been a member of boards.ie since 2004 and have met many people over the years through the website either directly, or indirectly. I’m pretty sure that in a few years to come boards will become the facebook of Ireland where near every person from the age of 15 onwards will have atleast a registered user account there.
In 2006 I was heavily involved in taking care of adverts.ie when it was a small sistersite. Over the years it has grown to huge that it now has its own employed team to take care of the site. Check it out at http://adverts.ie if you have not already.
In 2009 I become site administrator along with another team of admins at the time. I am more technically involved as administrator and tend not to try and get involved with the everyday rabbles between users and moderators and vice versa.
As of March 2010 I have been taking a backseat due to personal reasons, as life is fairly busy at the moment. But I do hope to return to full active administration very soon.
